Peruvian Independence Day with Norma & Vilma Caterers - Johannesburg

After a very very long time, I ordered food in - from Norma & Vilma Caterers to celebrate Peruvian Independence Day!

They had a special menu for the occasion and I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

We started with the Causa De Atun - reminded me of a Salad Olivieh - a timbale of potato, avocado, tuna & boiled eggs. Absolutely delicious! Don’t believe them when they say it’s for 2, it’s quite filling for 4 appetiser portions!

The Aji De Galina was a very mild chicken casserole with pecans - very well cooked, but a bit mild for our tastes, perhaps I should have gone for the lamb and coriander stew option.

The Frijoles a la Nortena - Peruvian beans with a bit of bacon in there for flavouring was delicious and creamy.

Today, I served this with rice, but tomorrow, I think I’ll serve it with garlic bread. The crispy bread will go very well with these smooth & creamy dishes.

I served their most amazing Empanadas de Carne for tea. Oh yum! I should have definitely ordered more of these, but I wasn’t sure how well they would survive structurally if I had to store them overnight. I hope this goes on their permanent menu.

The crowning glory of this delivery though, were these absolutely delectable, moreish, decadent, bite sized bits of sin!

We are absolutely besotted with these ALFAJORES - shortbread biscuits filled with dulce de leche.

We ate a couple, before I could even plate them ☺️ While we might normally try a piece before plating, I think we inhaled 3 from the time we opened the box and transferred it to a plate ☺️

So delicious, not overly sweet. A nice crisp shortbread with a lovely caramelly dulce de leche filling. I’m in heaven and definitely going to have the sweetest dreams tonight.

Norma & Vilma Caterers have been in the catering business for 18 years. Quality ingredients come together to deliver excellent food with brilliant taste! The food was all very well packed and can easily go straight into the fridge or freezer without worrying about spillage or drying out.

I ordered a few dishes from their regular menu which came frozen and have gone straight into the freezer for the days that I just don’t want to cook.

Happy Independence Day to Peru and all Peruvians. Viva El Peru!

Hankies Cafe, London

Hankies Cafe
67 Shaftesbury Avenue
Piccadilly W1D 6LL
Soho
Phone number 020 7871 6021

Amazon Prime added this restaurant to their Home Delivery roster. I've been wanting to visit for awhile and we were in the mood for Indian today, so I placed an order.

The dahi bhalla was very authentic as was the chicken tikka and the chilli lamb chop. Full marks to these.

The black dhal and Haleem were quite good, but I've had better (in London too, not just in India)

The bhindi bhel, I was quite intrigued to taste, but it went missing in our order (I did get a refund)

The mushroom pickle was Fantastic!!!! The chicken pickle was good, but I could buy bottles of the mushroom pickle if they sold it!

The venison shammi was tasty, but I wasn't too happy with the texture, it could be the time until consumption made it hold together much tighter than it should. I'd like to try it in the restaurant to re-evaluate. However, for 5.5£ we got just one kebab and that felt a bit weird.

Which brings me to the main problem, some dishes are large serving size and some are measly and the prices don't reflect that. I guess this issue will be easily dealt with if you are eating at the restaurant, but can't be clarified when ordering online.

The kheema roti wasn't bad, but I could taste any truffle in the truffle naan.

The food in general was very good quality and I'm guessing that when I visit the location I will be able to give them an even higher rating!

Mam, London

Mam
16 All Saints Rd
Notting Hill
London W11 1HH

Phone number 020 7792 2665

Looks like Mam has opened recently, but they are offering delivery through deliveroo.

Home delivered pho on a cold and wet night when I had no intention of stepping outside, sounded just what I needed.

The Cha Gio (5.8£)- Vietnamese Fried Chicken Spring Rolls with wood ear mushrooms was lovely. The optional chicken with the papaya salad Goi Du Du Chicken (7£), made it it a very filling dish. Not as spicy as the Thai version, but nice and crunchy and light.

The beef pho (11£) had delicate slices of beef and a very fragrant pho. The cinnamon in it was very soothing. I had also ordered a Bun Heo (11£) - BBQ Pork with rice, for lunch the next day. The pork was absolutely delicious and I wish they would offer just the pork as a separate dish. I would order just a couple of plates of that pork and be a very happy person indeed.

I have varieties of bottles of chilli sauces and pastes at home to spice up my food, but you can order extra sauces from them if you like.

The food is good and they deliver home which is a huge advantage in the current weather, but I felt the lack of herbs in the pho (just a few spring onions) I'm not sure if this is because it was a takeaway/delivery order and you get more seasonings if you eat in.

Food was very well packed and I appreciate the broth being packed completely separately. It means you can reheat the soup if you don't eat immediately and not end up with a soggy glutinous mess.

Bibigo Bar & Dining, London

Bibigo Bar & Dining

London W1F 7JY

Phone number 020 7042 5225

After a long day trip, I was too tired to cook dinner and wanted something super spicy and protein packed. Ordered home delivery from Bibigo (via amazon prime)

The menu is limited, but whatever we ordered was very good. So much better than the other place we normally order from. The mixed meat dumplings were amazing as were the pork bulgogi & the ribs.

The squid & red chicken starter were yum too.

Since he wanted noodles, I ordered the japchae- while it was in the starters section, the quantity was substantial enough for a main course, especially since it was the thicker style of glass noodles.

Loved the food. Will definitely order in again and maybe even visit if we are close enough.

Lahore Grill Menu

Another Home Delivery Order.

Excellent lamb samosas (2.80 for 2 pieces). Crispy, right size and the filling was perfectly spiced.

The chicken chapli kebab (3.25 for 2 pieces) was a good innovation. Its normally made from mutton or beef and those tend to get a little chewy because of the cooking process and quality of meat used. The chicken was much less chewy, but a little low on spice for us.

The lamb haleem (8.95) was one of the better ones that I have eaten in London (the only one better than Lahore Grill's that I have tried so far is Dishoom in Covent Garden)

The nihari (8.95 - a large mutton shank with a marrow bone that is stewed overnight) was delightful. Not too glutinuous, but just right. Again a beautiful balance of spices.

The chicken biryani (8.45) was good, but personally I wouldn't put it in the "order again" category.

The grilled baby chicken with spicy sauce (6.75) was the only disappointment. There was hardly any spicing and it came with bits of coal char on it, which always ruins the food experience for me.

Some of the items are really good, while others are middling. It will be a bit of a trial & error process to find what works best for you.

May's Chinese Cuisine, London

May's Chinese Cuisine
39 Willesden Lane
Kilburn
London NW6 7RF

020 7625 3388

Ordered home delivery from here today (2Pounds charge) and husband says this is the best Chinese he has had in London. I guess this is because its the closest to the Indian-Chinese food that he grew up with.

I ordered via Hungry House which had an offer of free prawn crackers for bills above 15, but if you call them directly, they offer free dishes on each bill threshold.

The food arrived quite quickly and was piping hot. The crackers were packed separately, so they hadn't crumbled. Quantities are large & prices are low, yet it is high on taste and quality. A perfect combination for takeaways & home delivery.

May's offers a range of Chinese, Malaysian & Thai Food. They are really excellent about catering to allergies. With my shrimp/prawn allergy, I'm quite hesitant to order any seafood in a Chinese restaurant, because I never know if shrimp or shrimp heads have been added to the stock or to thicken a sauce. But these guys can tell you immediately about every ingredient in the dishes on their menu.

The only 2 dishes that fell in the middling range were the pork dumplings (5.40) because their wrapping was on the thicker side and the Thai red curry (5.60), that was more of a side dish than a curry. They tasted good, but did not meet my expectations, especially compared to the rest of the food.

The roast pork fried rice (5.20) and the chicken chowmein (5.40) were very good, with lots of flavour and tender meat. Not too oily (the bane of many takeaway chowmeins) The sweet & sour chicken Hong Kong style (5.60) was yummy and the first time that I was able to eat pineapple added in sweet and sour dishes because it wasn't too sweet or sour or squishy. The kung po pork with chilli (5.90) was the standout dish of the day. Just the right amount of chilli without going over the top.

They have some special set meals like :
Sweet & Sour Chicken + Spring Rolls + Egg Fried Rice for 1 person for 9.90.
A Meal for 2 with a quarter crispy Aromatic Duck + 6 pancakes + 2 Spring Rolls + Chicken in Black Bean Sauce + Sweet & Sour Pork + Egg Fried Rice + Prawn Crackers for 23.90
A Meal for 3 with quarter crispy Aromatic Duck + 6 pancakes + 3 Chicken & Mushroom Soup + Sweet & Sour Chicken + Beef with Green Pepper in Black Bean Sauce + King Prawns with Mixed Vegetables + Egg Fried Rice + Prawn Crackers for 36.90

Really loved the food from May's & I'm guessing that we will be ordering in from here whenever someone is in the mood for Chinese :)

Thai Metro

Thai Metro offers free home delivery and that's what gives them the extra half star. I would rate them 3.5. Delivery was quite prompt and my order was accurately delivered. What I loved was the layer of plastic wrap before closing the boxes that had liquid to them - the curry and the stir fries with sauce.

The food here wasn't bad, but wasn't outstanding either.

I enjoyed the corn cakes (4.25) and drunken pork fried rice (6.5). The chicken with cashewnuts (6.5) had some pineapple in it which I wasn't expecting and I don't like cooked pineapple. The chicken red curry was good (6.5), but didn't come with rice - I'm so used to rice being included with Thai curries at restaurants back home)

The pork with drunken bamboo shoots (6.5) wasn't as exciting as I had hoped and used very thinly sliced lean cuts of pork which made it taste more like chicken, just tougher.

Quantities are quite large, so that makes the prices quite reasonable.

They don't deliver desserts home (probably because they all include ice cream?), but they do offer soft drinks and some alcoholic drinks too - including sake and plum wine.

Delivery available for orders over £12.00. Charge of £3.00 applies to orders under £20.00

Wraps & Wings, London

Wraps & Wings,
244 Acklam Road,
Notting Hill,
London W10 5YG
020 8960 3800

We were looking for a home delivery this evening and "Wraps & Wings" had dropped their menu in our mailbox a couple of days ago.

While at first look, you may think that this is a fast food place, there were more than enough healthier options for me to choose from (non fried, no carb, protein + veggies)

The menu is very simple and straight forward : beef/chicken/veg burgers (5-6 pounds). Chicken/veg wrap (4.99), wings (5 for 4.49, 3 for 3.49 with bone or boneless), barbecued chicken (quarter-4.49, half 6.99, whole 10.99)  and a selection of side dishes. The variations come in the multitude of sauces on offer - Buffalo, Sticky BBQ, Caribbean Jerk, Peri Peri (hot or mild), Lemon & Herb, Mango & Lime.

For myself I ordered the Chicken & wings platter (9.99) which came with half a barbecued chicken - I chose the peri-peri sauce for this and it was wonderful. I chose the highest heat and could have easily eaten spicier, but it at least felt like I was eating spicy food. The wings I asked for with the buffalo sauce and that was good too, but I preferred the peri-peri sauce. The platter also came with 2 sides of fries and 2 choice of sauce -the chipotle mayo is very good. When they said the platter was good for 2, I did not take it at face value and ordered a separate meal for the husband, but the portions are very large and half of the half chicken is sitting in the refrigerator for tomorrow.

For the husband, I ordered the boneless chicken wings with the mango & lime marinade and a salad (5.49). The salad was lovely (green leaves, peppers, corn and ineapple in a light dressing), the marinade was good, but I personally would have preferred a heavier helping of the marinade in the chicken. I could just get hints of flavour, unlike in my own chicken dishes which were "goooily" coated.

The chicken wrap (Caribbean Jerk marinade - 4.99) was a little drier than my husband liked, so he just added, some of the mayo into the wrap. I did not taste this one, because I was already quite stuffed. But apart from the chicken, he said it also had roast vegetables, cajun slaw and lettuce.

The honey roast vegetables (1.99) were perfect. nibble sized pieces, well seasoned and beautifully roasted. The sweet potato fries (3.99) were good, but I've had much better or maybe they just got a bit soggy because of the delivery.

I'd like to try their peri peri fries (2.49 / 2.79) next time. If you like to end the meal on something sweet, they do have an apple crumble pie, blueberry cheesecake and red velvet cake (4 pounds each) to choose from.

This outlet only has delivery option (no takeaway, no eat-ins) and delivery is free for orders over 15 Pounds.

All the food above + tip came up to 28 Pounds. Not a bad price for a healthy meal delivered home.

079 26821373, +91 7383530530

Ordered a home delivery from here the last weekend.

I was shocked by the quantity of food hat actually arrived home. Turns out the full plate of murg musallam (380/-)came in 2 large size plastic containers. The taste was absolutely lovely, but there was a lot more curry than chicken. So I had to add a couple of boiled eggs to the curry to be able to finish it up.

To accompany this we had ordered a stuffed paratha (40/-) and a tandoori roti (14/-) The quality and taste of the Stuffed paratha was much much better than the tandoori roti.

The chilly chicken (170/-) was good, but not outstanding. For mutton kebabs, the person on the phone recommended the mutton seekhs (220/-), but they weren't very good. On the drier side and not very great flavours.

The mutton biryani (200/-) also was good but not great.

Loved the stuffed paratha and the murg musallam. Everything else was average. Looks like you need to know what to order at Ali Baba.

3.5 rating is purely for the murg musallam.

Amazing Biryani, Ahmedabad

Amazing Biryani
Shop 14, Shyam Tirth Apartment,
Near Chandan Party Plot,
Jodhpur,
Satellite,
Ahmedabad.

Finally! My quest for the best biryani in Ahmedabad has ended. The minute I saw that my home delivery packet had a packet for both raita and salan, my hopes were lifted. On opening the ziplock foil packets, the salan smelt beautifully nutty and perfect unlike the generic watery curry that is often on offer.

After enduring months of oily, unflavoured, colored rice with undercooked or overcooked meat, or just passably "ok"ish biryanis across town, today I finally discovered this gem.

Beautifully cooked individual grains of rice, some mildly flavored from being cooked in stock, some grains slightly more heavily flavored with bits of masala from the meat clinging to them. Sweet caramelised deep fried onions and mint leaves changing the flavour ever so subtly here and there and a few cashewnuts interspersed for a bit of crunch. I could eat just the rice and not even bother if there was any meat in it and THAT is the test of a great biryani!

It was good that I tasted the mutton boti kebab (320/-) - good, but could have been marinated longer and meat slightly more tenderised, chicken 65 (240/-) - one of the better versions available in Ahmedabad and gulabi chicken (245/-) before I sampled the biryani, because once the first morsel crossed my lips, there was no turning back.

What I ordered was the mutton Moghlai biryani (290/-). They have mutton, chicken, egg and veg options. And they offer Moghlai and Andhra varieties of biryani. Will try the Andhra version next time, but my quest has ended for now.

I was intrigued by the Gulabi chicken, so I asked the person on the phone what it was. He said it was a pinkish gravy with chicken and peas. What arrived was quite red as was the little layer of oil over it, but drain the oil away and the curry was really yummy and the chicken was falling apart at the bone. Another perfect dish. Just that and tawa rotis, would make a perfect meal in itself.

They have a lot of Vepudu / Pulusu and other Andhra dishes on the menu including fish. I think I will give their Andhra food a try next time.

I placed my order at 6:15 (the online timings said they were open from 12 noon to 11pm. But the person answering the phone, honestly said that the staff would come in around 6:45 and he would have my delivery home by 7:30 and he kept his word. Very impressed!

They only have Home Delivery right now, no sit down restaurant yet and they offer a 10% discount on home delivery. They also sent me a free 500ml bottle of fanta. I don't drink fanta, but its a nice gesture.

Added on 4 Aug 2014
Had a friend visiting Ahmedabad unexpectedly and had only fruits in the fridge at 7:30pm when I came to know that he was coming over in half an hour. Most of our friends expect good home cooked food when they visit and I knew that would be impossible, so I wondered where to get a home delivery from, that would be tasty and not overly oily and still be a good change for someone who has a range of great non-veg to choose from in Delhi / Gurgaon. I didn't have to think too hard, I immediately settled on Amazing Biryani and everyone loved the food. This was Brajesh's first time tasting their food (he wasn't in town when I had ordered from here the first time) and he has said that we should order from here more often.

The Chicken 65 (240/-) was brilliant as usual and completely addictive, no unnecessary veggies crowding the dish. The chicken banjara kebab (290/-) was kebab in a green marinade and very lovely, juicy, succulent pieces. The goli tara mutton (270/-), was minced mutton balls in an Andhra style curry, that was so good, that the bowls were practically licked clean. The tandoori roti (15/-) & laccha parathas (25/-) were great. (the tandoori roti was good reheated the next day too, didn't turn rubbery) Dum ka sabji (165/-) was a mixed veggie thick gravy that had nice fresh vegetables in it. And this time on their recommendation, I ordered the Amazing Special Dum Biryani (320/-) which was brilliant! Mixed pieces of boneless chicken, mutton, meat balls, egg etc - its a meat lovers delight! Highly, highly recommended.

I had ordered for 2 biryanis and when I opened the package, I realised that only 1 biryani had arrived. I called the restaurant, they apologised and said that they would look into it. within half an hour (inspite of pouring rain outside) the delivery boy was back and he too apologised for the oversight, he handed over the missing biryani and a complimentary coke as an apology. Now I didn't need the coke (they had already sent one free Pepsi with the original order) and we are off fizzy drinks as far as possible, what I loved was the sincerity and earnestness with which they realised that something had gone wrong, didn't get defensive about it, but did their best to rectify the mistake.

Hence for the great food & lovely attention to service and customer, I'm upgrading their rating from 4 to  4.5.

Faaso's, Ahmedabad

Faaso's
G 42, Shree Mahalaxmi Shops,
Rudra Square,
Next to Rasranjan,
Bodakdev,
Ahmedabad

+91 9099990299, +91 9099990300

After Asia Kitchen, Shakti Sandwich and RollaCosta, this is the next eatery that I have seen in Ahmedabad with a black & white mural on their wall.

Faaso's has opened in Ahmedabad, after tasting success in Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore. Sadly, they have only brought in a limited menu to Ahmedabad. They only offer chicken, egg and veg options here. No sign of the mutton, prawns and fish stuffings.

The location at Bodakdev, has a couple of tables to eat-in and I loved their yellow and purple interiors. However, on this visit, I just wanted a takeaway.

I ordered 4 different non-veg rolls today, so the person at the counter recommended that I try their offer of 4 rolls + 2 chocolate fantasy + 2 swigs for 399/- which made sense. I ordered a chicken seekh with egg, a fiery chicken tikka, chicken bhuna and BBQ chicken for takeaway. I asked for all the rolls to be made with wheat multigrain rather than maida. While I would have loved to try their laccha parathas, we try and avoid refined flour/maida for dinner. We were charged 10Rs extra per roll for eating healthy, but I don't mind. Another 10 Rs extra for the egg in the chicken seekh kebab roll. (all these charges were clearly mentioned on their menu)

The order was served very fast given my other 2 experiences today at two & a bud and W xyz at Aloft.

However, it was only after arriving home and finding that my chicken tikka wasn't very fiery, I realised they had given me a masala chicken tikka instead of a fiery chicken tikka. It was ok, but much weaker than the other 2 rolls I tasted. I enjoyed the bhuna chicken the most as it felt like it had more complex flavours and the BBQ chicken was unusual with its sweetish sauce.

I haven't yet tried the Swig (Faaso's inhouse drinks - currently only available in jaljeera flavour), but the chocolate fantasy was a huge disappointment, instead of a lava cake with a cake exterior and a melting center (as pictured in the menu and ads), what I got was a pudding - uniform wettish chocolate pudding - neither cake, nor melting.

Faaso's can't be making these kinds of mistakes just because this is Ahmedabad. They need to maintain the same standards as they do in other cities, especially since they have had ample time to get over teething problems in this city.

They have really tiny takeaway bags, so my order needed 2 bags and I was charged 4Rs for the bags - this is the first restaurant that I have seen anywhere in India charging for the plastic bags (I've been charged for containers - but after being informed) and there was no prior intimation of the same either. The amount is too insignificant to care, but I don't like being charged without being notified what I'm being charged for before billing, especially if it is a unique charge like this.

Flavourwise I still prefer Tibbs, but I'll try Faaso's again with a maida laccha paratha and egg and stuffing to do a more balanced comparison.

Malgudi Rasoi, Ahmedabad

Malgudi Rasoi,
G 1, Rajshree Arcade,
Besides Pachtirth Appartments,
Jodhpur Cross Road,
Satellite,
Ahmedabad
079 26928877, 079 40306177

Ordered a Home Delivery from Malgudi Rasoi today. They did not have their Kanchipuram idlis (55/-) in stock, so I ordered both the masala isli (55/-) and the masala fried idli (65/-) The masala fried idlis were excellent. On first bite, you couldn't even guess if it was pieces of bread, paneer or idli.

I ignored the vadas and fries on the menu (with great difficulty) and then ordered from the dosa and uttapam sections. The 5 different panchavaran uttapams (95/-) were very interesting. We identified them as tomato, onion, potato masala, beetroot and mix uttapams. Husband loved the potato masala and tomato versions, I loved the beetroot version (especially since it was a completely new combination for me)

The Madurai sandwich uttapam (95/-) was uttapam with a potato masala and mix of other toppings, which the husband quite enjoyed.

We also ordered a cheese corn dosa (85/-) which had just the right amount of cheese, nothing over the top and Indian sweet corn (not American) The karamura spicy masala dosa (90/-) was like a Mysore masala dosa with gun powdered sprinkled on the dosa rather than a red chutney). The malgudi rasoi special dosa (99/-) had regular masala and some dried fruits and chopped onions and tomatoes and some other stuff all mixed in. The dosas weren't bad, but the packing and transportation did not helptheir cause.

For home delivery, I would advise you to stick to the uttapams and idlis for best results. The dosas are probably best eaten hot on location.

The quantity of chutney and sambhar that came with our order was really huge. However the sambhar was neither sour nor spicy enough for us. Once I reboiled it with some tamarind water and green chillies, it was perfect.

To end on a sweet note, I asked for the kesari halwa/ sweet upma (50/-) which was brilliant - not too sweet, not at all oily, just right.

Bikanervala, Ahmedabad

4 & 5, Ground Floor,
Camps Corner 2,
Opposite Auda Garden,
Prahlad Nagar,
Ahmedabad
079 30427576, +91 9974023544

Bikanervala is a great place to grab a snack in the Prahladnagar Area. Food is similar to other Bikanervala's across India and the Middle East. The taste is standardised at all outlets.

They serve decent Pani puri (40/- for 6 pieces), but it feels too hygienic and clinical compared to the Gwalia pani puri (given the plastic pouch that the puris come in, etc)

The rest of their chaat - papri chaat (70/-), laccha tokri (75/-), raj kachori (75/-), aloo tikki (70/-), ragda pattice (80/-) and chole bhatura (110/-) are very good.

Their Deluxe thali meals (220/-) are very large and filling and great to order for home delivery too. You get a paneer subzi, dal makhni, fresh vegetable, pulao, 1 naan, 1 paratha, raita, papad, salad, pickle and a sweet. They come all packed up in a compartmentalised plate (so you don't have to unwrap and open a ton of boxes.)

Their South Indian stuff isn't bad, but for sweets, I personally prefer Gwalia.

Millenium, Ahmedabad

Millenium Quality Food,
C/1 Ground Floor, Patel Avenue
Near Gurudwara (0n service road)
SG Highway
Bodakdev
Ahmedabad
079 2685 1897, 95863 00290

Millenium is a smallish (5 tables setup) dhabha type open air eatery on the SG Highway, located on the service road leading to the Gurudwara near Krishna Hotel. While the kitchen set up and open air location on the road may make you feel like it will be very basic, the seating arrangements are quite good.

They offer veg and non veg items and were heavily recommended by some long time foodie Ahmedabad residents. So I had to stop here and pick up dinner the other night. While some of these foodies told me that they have eaten there in large groups, the current mosquito menace was not conducive to eating on location, so I ordered a takeaway.

The waiting time was quite long (about 35 minutes) for a takeaway from a dhabha, but they seemed to be serving seated customers first, which I do appreciate.

The guy in charge also told me that they would deliver in a 3km radius, if the order was above 500/-, so next time, I can skip the waiting.

The tandoori rotis (14/-) were amazing, even though they were without butter (by request) and they paired perfectly with the gravies I had ordered. The boneless kolhapuri chicken (175/-) gravy was lovely, though it was a little weird to find Chinese style battered and deep fried chicken pieces in the curry. The bheja masala (160/-) was great too.

The chicken 65 (165/-) was my favourite item of the night -spicy, sour and meaty. The White mutton gravy (160/-) that he recommended was interesting, but average. There was hardly any meat in the gravy and it was mostly just bones.

There are a lot of items on the menu that I am interested in seeing what they look and taste like, (chicken shirazi, mutton rang, chicken and mutton sawai, chicken and mutton gulgi) so I'll definitely be ordering from them again. Also my friends heavily recommend the Indian home style chicken, and garlic chicken which will definitely be on the order next time.

I must mention that the bill came up to less than 700Rs and if I had ordered more rotis, it could have comfortably fed about 5-6 people.

Rating : 3.5 / 5

On a later occassion, we actually ordered food on the phone at 11:30 pm and picked it up around midnight. So its a great place to pick up food, if you need something simple and basic, late at night.

Their desi chicken was absolutely amazing curry, but the pahadi kebab was average.

Stopped here for a quick early dinner. Given that RK started life as a laari (push cart - or so we have heard) at NID, we were pleasantly surprised by the air conditioned comfort at this location that had eleven 4 seater tables and the tables and chairs were much better quality than the standard plastic chairs that abound in Ahmedabad Eateries.

This was a our first "Egg specialist" eatery, so we were quite shocked at the 75+ varieties of Egg Preparations on the menu, broadly grouped under omelettes, bhurji (scrambled), curry, fried items and rice dishes.

Whatever we tried, we quite enjoyed - Surti Ghotala (150/-) & Boiled Tikka Kheema (120/-). All their dishes come with 2 slices of toast or rotis, and a side dish of chopped onions, chopped lettuce and green chutney, that you can use to create a wrap or in any other combination. So one plate is a decent sized meal for a person, since the egg dish has 2 eggs in it.

In our tikka kheema, both eggs were boiled and chopped in large pieces and fried up like a tawa fry (closest approximation that I can think of).

The Surti Ghotala had 1 boiled egg practically grated into the thick curry sauce and one half fried egg, that was again topped with some more masala covering the fried egg like a purdah.

We will definitely go back a couple of times, to do justice to this menu and also work up courage to try their "Special" egg curry (350/-) which supposedly has cheese, butter, dates, nuts and dry fruits.

My husbands quest for the perfect French Toast is finally over!

My version of French Toast is sweet, batter of beaten egg with sugar, milk and a hint of cinnamon or nutmeg. He never understood how French Toast served in hotels was always sweet because French Toast served in hostel and at his home was basically bread dipped in masala omlette mix and fried.

RK Egg Eatery, makes their French toast exactly the way he likes it and to make it even more perfect, they roll the egg in sev after dipping it in egg and before frying. He normally adds sev on top of French toast (and most breakfast items), but here they fried it up with the toast itself, putting the husband in foodie heaven. They call it the Rizwan Fry Sev (120/-).

Don't be misled by the name, but the Egg Pakoda (50/-) is a boiled egg, stuffed into a pav bun which has masala butter smeared on it. At 50/- its a real steal. You can completely be happy with just one of these buns at snack time or 2 for a complete meal.

We had the Surti Special Kheema (140/-) which is a spicy preparation with cheese and butter. The Nargis Gotalo Special (200/-) had a boiled egg curry and a half fried egg on top which melted into the masala once broken, topped with a different green masala, yummy goodness. The Varsha Fry Curry (200/-) was similar in flavours, but still different.

So many different things yet to try, the added bonus is that they deliver home too.
